Scratchy

Scratchy

Admittance date: 30th March 2022

Scratchy was initially trapped due to mange on her back end. However, once caught in the trap we noticed that she had a really nasty wound on her back. Whilst it isn't deep, it is red raw and is open to infection out in the wild, hence we took her in and are ensuring the wound is cleaned daily.

12/04: Earlier this week we released Scratchy, who was initially brought in with a wound on her back, as well as mange. If it wasn’t for the wound, we would have just given her a spot on when she was caught and released her straight back. However, we felt it best to keep her in/clean the wound on her back daily as whilst it wasn’t infected, it was still quite a large open wound. Whether it was a result of what happened to cause the scratch, or if she’s just a very nervous fox, Scratchy just did not take to being kept in with us, even for a short period of time. For days she was so fearful to even move from one side of the kennel to the other, and refused to touch her food initially. A few days with us and she began to trash her kennel/ate a bit of food, but that didn’t last long and she lost appetite again. Whilst the wound wasn’t completely healed, we felt it was healed over enough that releasing her back was the best course of action all things considered, and she was given a spot-on treatment for mange to cover her for the next 3 months going ahead. Short stay for this nervous girl, though we are satisfied it was the right call.

Scratchy was released back into the wild on 6th April 2022
