Admittance date: 19th October 2024
Steptoe was brought into us in October after being cage-trapped in a back garden to be treated for mange. Not only did she have mange, she also had a nasty injury on one of her back toes, in which part of the bone in toe was exposed. She's been on a course of antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, and had to have the wound cleaned daily plus bandaged, which has had to be changed daily. She's now had the bandage permanently removed and she is in a pen whilst the toe, which no longer has bone exposed but is still wounded, heals.
06/12 update: Steptoe is looking like a new fox now. However, we are unable to release her just yet due to the fact the toe that had the compound fracture still has a small wound at the end. Whilst this is now less than 1cm in width, there's a risk of infection, particularly due to the location, due to the amount of bacteria in soil that it would come into contact with in the wild. Hoping that by the next update we will have released Steptoe, as the wound itself is healing well.
13/12 udpate: At long last, Steptoe was released back to her home territory yesterday evening following several weeks with us following mange treatment as well as treatment for an open fracture on one of her toes. Once the carrier lid was opened and she realised she was free, she wasted no time in getting back home.
