Wiley was cage-trapped due to a large but superficial wound on his backside. Due to the risk of infection in the wild, we opted to take him in to our care so he could be put on a course of antibiotics whilst the wound heals. He's currently in one of the outdoor pens as made it abundantly clear he was not going to put up with being in a kennel in the unit.
06/12 update: Wiley is still with us whilst his wound heals, and he's on a course of medication to help keep him calm while in our care. We've also enclosed his pen with blankets on the outside so that he feels more enclosed and is less likely to climb walls. The horrific wound on his back end is healing very nicely however, and we are hoping we can get him back to his territory in time for the mating season but do not want to risk prematurely releasing him due to risk of infection.
06/01: hang in there Wiley, wound is still healing, getting smaller and smaller, but we just need it to be a little smaller before we can be comfortable releasing.
21/12 update: Whilst his wound is still healing nicely, Wiley is still with us as there is still a fair area of fleshy wound still on his back. As it gets smaller however, it should heal quicker and quicker, so hopefully it shouldn't be too long before Wiley can get back home.
16/01 - 2 months after his original capture, Wiley was finally released back home, as we were happy the wound on his back had healed sufficiently.
